The Paintings of Naoto Hattori

The Eye’s Mind

I came across Naoto Hattori’s work in Juxtapoz magazine back in the 90’s, and have periodically checked up on his latest creations ever since. He makes swirling amalgams of humans, animals, aliens, dolls, plants…intertwining like a grand mad scientist DNA experiment.

Naoto Hattori was born in 1975 in Yokohama Japan, studied Graphic Design in Tokyo before moving to New York to study in the School of Visual Arts. In the year 2000 he received a BFA in illustration from the School of Visual Arts. He has received Awards from the Society of Illustrators, the New York Directors Club, Communication Arts and also he has won numerous award from many art competitions and has been published in many art magazines. Of his work, He says: “My vision is like a dream, whether it’s a sweet dream, a nightmare, or just a trippy dream. I try to see what’s really going on in my mind, and that’s a practice to increase my awareness in stream-of-consciousness creativity. I try not to label or think about what is supposed to be, just take it in as it is and paint whatever I see in my mind with no compromise. That way, I create my own vision.”

    1. I lived in a Nicaragua for almost 2 years and trust me I never thought I would miss Winter time but I did!!!! It’s cold and complicated but it is so much part of who we are here in Montreal. I know now that I can’t live without it!!! With time I have learned to prepare myself for it, have studded winter tires, a nice warm coat that still ”breathes”, always have a warm hat and good gloves, nice warm boots and a positive attitude and even then I still have days I hate Winter but I now know it’s part of who I am and have learned, believe it or not to accept it!! TY for your WARMING wish!! It heats up my heart!! HAHAHA!!! Peace Out to all of you from Kentucky!!

    2. Hell no!!! My grand-father used to bitch about winter all the time, my father does too, I’m the only one who doesn’t bitch about it anymore and I just told you why otherwise I’d be bitching about it more than both of them together!! That’s for sure!! 😃

    1. Thanks to you for appreciating it!!! I just hope that one day the artist himself will get to read those awesome commentaries he is getting that would be my ultimate pride and joy to know that this has reached ”the Guy” himself!! Without people like you his paintings would be for his eyes only!!
