Behind Big Wide Eyes
”Those sad-eyed kids, signed and sold by the voluble bibulous Walter Keane (1915-2000), were the work of Keane’s wife, Margaret, whose identity and authorship were kept secret. Keane never painted anything. Yet he could sell. By art market standards, the man was ahead of his time, prefiguring an era in which artists don’t need to touch “their” creations. Attacked as a hoax back then, Walter’s scam would be studied as a marketing bonanza today.” – Tommy D’arcy
I think he was still a fraud and a bully. I just want to celebrate the sad-wide eyed kids drawn by Margaret Keane. I don’t even wanna talk about the movie. I just wanna look at her beautiful paintings.
If you like those you should check the work of Sas Christian as well. Enjoy!
