The site of a stunning 1885-era Parisian municipal bathhouse, HOME to the previous Les Bains Douches Nightclub, is now set to be revamped into a Luxury Boutique Hotel. Earlier this year, a group of 50 Art practitioners filled it up with their own art, creating their very own pop up art gallery from it.
Built as a municipal bathhouse in the late 19th century, Les Bains-Douches would eventually become one of the hottest Night Clubs in Paris known simply as Les Bains, a destination for the likes of Kate Moss, Mick Jagger, Johnny Depp and even Andy Warhol. Due to some faulty construction in 2010 the building was declared a safety hazard and is now slated for complete renovation in just a few days to pave way for La Société des Bains, a new space that will open in 2014. In the meantime, owner Jean-Pierre Marois turned over the building to 50 street artists commissioned by Magda Danysz Gallery who have been working since January to turn the decaying building into an endless canvas of amazing Artwork.
I wish I could do some or just be able to see what a couple of artists are doing with it as I look through the glasses. This must be a huge thrill for artists. I just don’t know how much liberty it gives you and if as an artist they are so magical. It must be very expensive!!
I agree a huge portrait like that has to be a bit costly unless they are backed by a company I presume. I have taken a photo of one that took up an entire side of a building on the high line in NYC. Unfortunately it was taken down making that catch a rarity. 😊
I reblogged your post Tobe so that post already links to your site. I wish I could Press the article instead but it doesn’t allow me to do it to any blog I prefer. So boom, you got featured twice on ata man. Hope it does you some justice ✌😁
No I didn’t photograph it and I’m pretty sure the art is gone and the new buildings are almost finished.. Like I said it was a repost of an earlier post…
It’s an old post! I would doubt the art is still there… Honestly…So Sad but there are theses images and the new spot they will open there should be at least as kool as theses artists… I’d bet it’s a nice stop today!
Have a wonderful day! Today is our national patron anniversary La Saint-Jean -Baptiste! It is considered here a very good excuse to get drunk with the people you love! It’s like St-Patrick’s day for the Irish. Peace Out from Montreal! 😉
The addicted lights where kind of cool and I have seen this sort of art down town in NYC. Very eye catching

Are they going to tear the art down too? Such a waste if they have provided a way to preserve them, they are amazing!

Indeed…I think most of the art is going to be destroyed unfortunately! I know it’s a shame! I guess it’s part of the essence of Street Art I guess…
