King Kong (2005)

King Kong (2005)Directed by Peter Jackson and starring Naomi Watts, Adrien Brody, Jack Black & Andy Serkis.

First of, let me say that this movie seems like a love it or hate it affair, but I feel that most of its detractors are misguided in that they’re blaming a popcorn movie for being exactly that: a popcorn movie.  In truth, this is a brilliant spectacle of a motion picture, an epic thrill ride that despite being a very long film never fails to keep us highly entertained.  This is Peter Jackson’s labor of love, a superb homage to the original 1933 classic, and it delivers on every level.   Furthermore, Andy Serkis does a remarkable job with the motion-captured King Kong which is certainly one of the best, if not the best, CGI creature ever put on screen.  I guess if you are jaded and unable to suspend disbelief to the benefit of movie magic you will be sorely disappointed, but you’ll also be missing out on the greatest display of its kind since the original Jurassic Park.
