Who is Behind Our Face?
Olivier has made the leap from painter and sculptor to a singular presenter of living creation. “I am flabbergasted in seeing to what degree people think it’s normal to be alive. All of my focus is to reveal this strangeness of being in the world.” In 1998 he began a series of over 200 performances of Transfiguration: Who is Behind Our Face? Olivier’s unpredictable spontaneity ensured that each performance was unique, startling, and often unsettling.

Hello Kathryn. Thanks for your comments on my first post. Olivier’s work has a disturbing quality. He transforms himself from a normal looking human being into an ever changing kaleidoscope of frightening personae. His message is that the face we present to the world is just as much a construct as the alter egos he creates. You found it unsettling and alien. That’s the point. What’s behind the face you show the world?
